METAL AMERICAN RAILROAD SPECIAL POLICE BADGE, 1940's (?), I believe it
is nickel plated over brass. The writing on the badge is debossed
and colored black. It measures 2 1/8" x 2 1/4". I am pretty
confident that "American" is the name of a railroad line somewhere in the
US. I do not think it is like a national railroad police badge.
Of course, the railroad is now defunct.
I believe, from
the other contents of the estate, that this is from the 1940's.
I could not get
a good photo of this badge - either it reflected too much so you could
not see it or it looks like this -- much more scratched up than it really
looks. The metal is actually shinier.
The condition
is good to fair. Someone messed with this badge trying to change
the badge numbers. They put something over top the number and tried
to put new numbers on. I am guessing solder, but I am no handyman
-- all I know is that it is more silvery than the nickel plating.
I think the old number might be "hammered" out from the back, but I am
not certain.
Some of the coloring
on the lettering is gone.
The badge front
has moderate overall scratches. The top right point is a tad bent.
Some of the plating is worn off on the top right next to the "RR" and some
is worn off on the back. of the badge.
The pin works
great.
