PLATE #213
PHOTOGRAVURES OF THE CORRIDOR LOOKING TOWARD MAIN BANKING ROOM AND THE
ST. JAMES STREET FACADE, CAPTIONED "THE BANK
OF MONTREAL, MONTREAL, CANADA, 1904", FINE
CONDITION. THERE IS SOME YELLOWING AROUND THE EDGES. TWO CORNERS
HAVE LIGHT WEAR, THE TOP LEFT CORNER HAS A CREASE, BUT IS STILL STRONG
AND THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER HAS A TEAR AND A CREASE (1" X 5/16"). IT IS
A FRAGILE CREASE WHICH I HAVE SHORED UP UNTIL IT CAN BE FRAMED.
THAT CORNER ALSO HAS A DEEPER BRUISE AROUND IT. THERE ARE A COUPLE
OF SMALL TEARS ON THE EDGES. THE LARGEST ONE IS 3/8" ON THE
BOTTOM EDGE. THIS DAMAGE CAN BE MATTED OUT AND STILL LEAVE PLENTY
OF MARGIN. THERE ARE A FEW STRAY MARKS FROM THE PRINTING
PROCESS. #213

PLATE #214
PHOTOGRAVURES OF THE CRAIG STREET ELEVATION AND THE INTERIOR OF THE MAIN
BANKING ROOM, CAPTIONED "THE BANK OF MONTREAL,
MONTREAL, CANADA, 1904" , VERY GOOD CONDITION.
THERE IS SOME YELLOWING AROUND THE EDGES. THERE A VERY SMALL AND
SHALLOW NICKS ON THE LEFT EDGE. THE TWO LEFT CORNERS HAVE VERY SMALL
NICKS OUT OF THEM, THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAS A SMALL TO MODERATE SIZED NICK
OUT OF IT, AND THE TOP RIGHT CORNER HAS A LARGER NICK OUT OF IT ( 1 1/2"
LONG, IT IS 3/8" AT THE DEEPEST POINT ON THE RIGHT EDGE AND IT TAPERS TO
NOTHING ALONG THE TOP EDGE). THESE CORNER NICKS WOULD PROBABLY NOT
REQUIRE MATTING BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE UNDER THE EDGE OF THE FRAME IF YOU
FRAMED THE PRINTS. HOWEVER, THERE IS A 3/8" TEAR ON THE TOP EDGE
AND A TEAR ALMOST TO THE BORDER OF THE PHOTOGRAVURE ON THE RIGHT
SIDE. THIS TEAR PROBABLY COULD BE MADE TO BE ONLY NOTICEABLE AT CLOSE
RANGE BY A GOOD FRAMER. WITHOUT A GOOD FRAMER THOUGH, YOU WOULD HAVE
TO MATTE THE PRINT RIGHT TO THE BORDER SURROUNDING THE PHOTOGRAVURE
- YOU WOULD LOSE THE CAPTION AND THE PLATE NUMBER. THERE ARE
SOME STRAY MARKS FROM THE PRINTING PROCESS. #214

ST. JAMES STREET FACADE, CAPTIONED "THE BANK

CONDITION. THERE IS SOME YELLOWING AROUND THE EDGES. THE TWO
RIGHT CORNERS HAVE A SMALL BIT OF WEAR. THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER HAS
A COUPLE OF SMALL CREASES BUT IS STRONG. THE TOP LEFT CORNER
HAS A SMALL CREASE, BUT IT IS FRAGILE AND AT RISK OF BECOMING A NICK.
I HAVE TRIED TO FORTIFY IT WITH CARDBOARD AND A PAPER CLIP UNTIL IT CAN
BE FRAMED. THERE IS A VERY SMALL SHALLOW NICK OUT OF THE RIGHT
EDGE OF THE PRINT AND TWO VERY SMALL, SHALLOW NICKS OUT OF THE BOTTOM EDGE.
THERE ARE A FEW STRAY MARKS FROM THE PRINTING PROCESS.
