LATE 1800's HAND-COLORED WATERCOLOR COPPERPLATE ETCHING OF FIREWORKS PLACE IN THE PRATER (Vienna, Austria), etching by Joseph Ziegler,  plate is titled in both German (Der Feuerwerks Platz im Prater) and French (La Place du Feu d'Artifice au Prater).  It has "Zielgler" on the bottom left.  It has "C.P.S.P.M." under the German title,  and something that looks like "Artaria Comple" in the middle between the titles.  There is a "23" on the top right of the print (indicating it is a bookplate?).  It looks to be on paper of high rag content.  The print area is debossed as an etching will be, but there is no handwritten signature.  The art area is 16 1/2" x 10 7/8" (41.8 cm x 27.5 cm), the matted area is 22" x 18" and the size of the whole piece is 29" x 25" including the frame which is 1/2" thick.  The frame is gold colored wood (looks like it is probably pine).  This print looks like it was framed in the 1950's.  It is sealed up in the frame (see photos of back of frame - 1, 2).

The brown trim decoration around the print looks like it was applied over the the paper (rather than printed on the paper).  Also, it looks like the area inside the border might have also been applied to the paper outside the border (note how the paper inside the border does not have as much foxing and aging as the paper outside the border).  I am not certain that is the situation (I cannot get the framing open to investigate further) and I  do not have a guess as to why it would be arranged that way.
There is a very light vertical bend (very difficult to see even in person) through the center of the print (another reason I think this piece was originally a bookplate).  It goes though the whole print - not just the inside area.  Which leads me to believe my theory of the inside area of the picture being applied to the outer area is not correct.  The vertical bend is pretty much nonexistent which leads me to believe that this print has been dry-mounted.

Condition - is very good to fine.  There is some foxing (spotting from age).  There are some stray marks from the printing process - in particular note that the letters of the German title are smeared in 2 places.  I am not certain what the blue-black mark is on the bottom right of the print (probably a stray printing process mark, but I am not certain).  I am also not certain what the brownish spot is on the right side of the matte.
The frame has a moderate amount of wear with several dents, a few holes (see scan at left of the corner of the print and frame) and some of the color has worn off.  Please note that what looks like a crease on the right side of the picture in the first scan above is a light reflection - there is no crease there.

#PR28971    $325.00 **

I strongly prefer the buyer to see this print before purchasing it.  I live in Sayre PA (close to Elmira, Ithaca and Binghamton NY)

R. Atkinson Fox calendar top

"Elysian Fields", 1920's - 30's  R. ATKINSON FOX  PRINT, 16" x 20", print has "2640"  and "Made in USA" printed on the bottom, there is no Fox signature but it is in the Mortensen identification guide( vol 1, page 85), NOS (unused old stock), near mint condition,   #RAF2640    $165.00

EARLY 1900's (not later than the 1930's -- more likely 1910's) PRINT OF COWS OR CATTLE IN A STREAM IN A GOLD GESSOED FRAME, very much like several of R. Akinson Fox's works, 10" x 14", an estate find, 10" x 14", original backing board, but no backing paper, print is in excellent condition, frame has wear on the gold and the gesso, with scratches and scraps particularly at the corners and along the bottom edge    $65.00

TURN - OF - THE- CENTURY PICTURE FRAME

BEAUTIFUL TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY SEPIA-TONE PRINT AND FRAME, I believe the frame is walnut, it  measures
17 1/2" X 20" interior framing area,  19 3/4" X 23" exterior measure, frame wood is 1 1/2" wide x 3/4" deep (click here for close up of corner, that yellow tag is the auction tag), the print is of a young woman next to a spinning wheel with a fireplace in the back ground, near mint condition, no damage to print, the frame has a few indentations that did not go through the finish.    FR02    $58.00

TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY (TO 1900) MONOCHROME SEPIA-TONE PRINT OF ROMANTIC COUPLE WITH AMERICAN ESKIMO OR SPITZ DOG IN BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE OAK FRAME,  print is 14 x20", outside of the frame is 17 1/2 x 23 1/4", I seriously doubt the frame and the print originally went together but this is how I bought them, the print is in very good condition with a light crease on the bottom left corner, some roughness of the edge on the right side - a couple of  the nicks can be seen when the picture is hung, also a small tear into the pictures area - this damage can be seen in the photo of the damage at the right, the frame is in excellent condition with a few minor scratches and minor wear on the corners.   #SPZ 25604  $70.00
Because I do not think the frame and the print went together originally and because I think the print would show better with the slight damage matted in i am willing to split the two

GORGEOUS 1840's - 1850's COLORED ENGRAVING "VIEW OF BALTIMORE" by British artist W. H. BARTLETT (WILLIAM HENRY), engraved by S. Fisher, possibly a later printing but I doubt it, 9" x 12 1/2", scene area is 7" x 4",  sheet has been cropped from its original size, presently it is in a presentation matte but the matte has a tack hole through the top (not through the engraving) and there is a nick out of the left edge, engraving is in excellent condition with some age spotting on the large margins, looks much better than my scan, all problems can easily be matted out for an elegant presentation     PR25583    $65.00    NOW   $58.00
